A FEDERAL TAX UPDATE FOR THE 99 PERCENT:

Recent Developments in Federal Income, Estate and Gift Taxes Affecting Individuals and Small Businesses

Samuel A. Donaldson

Professor of Law, Georgia State University Atlanta, GA

Senior Counsel, Perkins Coie LLP, Seattle, WA

This informative and entertaining presentation will focus on the important cases, rulings, and regulations related to federal income, estate, and gift taxes of interest to estate planning professionals. The presentation will also discuss how the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act changes estate planning paradigms, particularly for married couples of moderate and significant means (meaning estates of $1 - $20 million). Specific topics to be addressed depend on most recent developments, but will likely include the proposed anti-clawback regulations, final regulations related to the deduction for qualified business income, the state taxation of accumulated trust income, and techniques for maximizing the step-up in basis at death.
