Peer to Peer AIS Workshop

WHAT: On-the-Water Peer to Peer AIS Workshop

WHEN: Tuesday, June 4th from 9:30am - 3:00pm

WHERE: Albany Reach of the Willamette River (Hyak - Bowman)

DETAILS: Enjoy of day of networking in the field with your fellow WAIN members while floating on the Willamette River. This on-the-water workshop will take place in the Corvallis to Albany Reach of the Willamette River by canoe. We will meet at Bowman park to set a shuttle and then float on the Willamette River from Hyak to Bowman Park. The day is geared for professional restoration practioneers who are planning and implementing projects to address aquatic invasive species. WAIN members, from Willamette Riverkeeper, Benton SWCD, Oregon State Parks, and Integrated Resource Management will be leading this workshop.

At this workshop on the river, we will cover the following topics:

  • Best management practices to address AIS species when they are mixed with native species
  • Project planning and considerations for Ludwigia treatments with an emphasis on lessons learned
  • Getting a new project going in first year of field work
  • How to use community Fulcrum, an app WAIN members are using to crowd source data on aquatic invasive species for the Willamette

BRING: Pack two full water bottles, layers for the weather, sun protection (glasses, hat and sunscreen), brown bag lunch, and snacks. We also recommend a smartphone or tablet with Fulcrum already downloaded in a waterproof bag. 

PROVIDED: Use of canoe, pfd, paddle, and a water weed field guide.
