Civic Life Institute 2019

Why should I attend?

Because we have to find more effective ways to talk to each other.

Even when we disagree.   Especially when we disagree.

Otherwise, how will we ever get anything done?

Effective ways of talking and working together on issues that affect the quality of life in our state--that’s what the Civic Life Institute is all about.

In an interactive environment, you'll explore practices that are helping West Virginia communities move forward.

Afterward, you'll head home with new relationships and new ideas to try in your own community.

What will I learn?

You’ll explore effective ways to--

  • Bring people together to talk about important issues
  • Facilitate discussions that consider different points of view
  • Move from productive talk to effective action
  • Learn about current initiatives that help your community talk and work together on issues that affect our state
  • Connect with the growing network of West Virginians who are building these practices in their own communities

Sounds good.  How can I register?

You can register by hitting the little blue button at the bottom of this page. But please take a moment to read about levels of pricing first.

Registration Pricing Levels

We want you to be able to attend.  Please choose the registration fee that you works for you.

Civic Life Champions ($149)  Civic Life Champions support the Center in highlighting the power of civic engagement by registering at this level, which allows us to “break even” (covers full costs for one participant).  This year more than ever, West Virginia needs its Civic Life Champions!

Civic Life Defenders ($129)  Civic Life Defenders take a stand in support of democratic practices in our communities by registering at this level, which covers about 85 percent of each participant’s costs. Help us develop stronger civic life statewide by registering at this level!

Civic Life Promoters ($95)  Civic Life Promoters know how important community engagement is and want to do everything they can to help promote these ideas in their communities and across the state. To make the Civic Life Institute available to more West Virginians, we offer this registration level, which covers about 65 percent of each participant's costs.

Lodging?  The Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg is offering a discounted rate to participants: $113 plus tax, which includes breakfast.  To register for the discount by phone (800-262-2536) or online (http://www.theblennerhassett.com), use the group code 301175.

Ready? The little blue button awaits.

Help someone else attend?

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to help someone else attend.  A full scholarship would be $149, but any amount would be helpful--and appreciated. Thanks for considering it!
