"What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You: Providers' False Sense of Security About QAPI in Phase Three"

Presented by

Ellen Kuebrich - Chief Strategy Officer, Providigm, LLC.

Wednesday, June 26th - 5:00 pm

*This Educational offering has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider #CEP212 for two ( 2 ) contact hours & by the Nursing Home Administrator Program [NHAP] for two ( 2 ) hours of continuing education.

Topic: There's a reason CMS gave SNF's Three Years to create and implement a QAPI strategy. The road from QAA to QAPI is challenging, but similarities between the two have lulled many providers into thinking they are ready for QAPI when they actually might not be. As the Phase 3 deadline for requirements of participation approaches on November 28th, 2019, this special session will allow you to check if your own QAPI program is up to standard. We will discuss the intent behind the QAPI regulation and share real world ideas and practices that you can implement in your organization tomorrow!

Objectives

1. Gain a Clear Understanding of what is expected in each of the five elements of QAPI

2. Leave with useful analogies and teaching tools that can be shared with your team to educate them on each of the QAPI elements.

3. Leave with actionable strategies on how to start implementing each of the elements of QAPI in your own facilities, and use QAPI to effectively drive organizational change.

SpeakerLike you, Ellen has seen the healthcare industry change more dramatically in the last 10 years than it has in the last 50. Ellen received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado.

Ellen is currently the Chief Strategy Officer  for Providigm. Providigm creates practical solutions that health care providers can use to improve quality in their facilities. Through Providigm’s training and web-based systems, providers are able to improve the quality of care and life of their residents.

This educational program presents an effective educational in-service on antimicrobial stewardship to licensed nurses in a skilled nursing facility (SNF);  introduces participants to the research process;  and encourages participants to examine the role of the different types of licensed nurses in SNFs.  This is the first research study to differentiate licensed nurses in an antimicrobial stewardship research effort in SNFs.  While the educational program was found significantly effective, research is still needed to elicit the effectiveness of written questionnaires, and the role and competencies needed by licensed nurses in the SNF setting.  In this presentation the instructor shares the results of her recently completed doctoral project.
