Integrating Bio/Neurofeedback with Mental Health Treatment for All Ages

Many clients need more than verbal counseling techniques especially when they are also suffering from somatic and/or medical conditions such as: Anxiety related to Migraine headache, IBS, ADHD, Depression, Chronic Pain, Cancer and other mental health issues. This workshop will explore the use of biofeedback devices and free phone/tablet apps that are non-invasive, complementary and cost effective. Biofeedback and Neurofeedback modalities are supported by scientific research and bring a fresh element of stress management and self-regulation client training to your practices.  

Who Should Attend: 

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.    

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define biofeedback and neurofeedback. 
  • Participants will be able to locate reliable, low-cost devices and learn when to implement specific devices depending on clinical issues. 
  • Participants will understand the interface of the Mind-Body connection and will develop an increased awareness of how to seek further information and training in the use of Bio/Neurofeedback modalities in clinical practice for a variety of client populations.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Susan E. Antelis, MPS, ATR-BC, ATCS, BCB-Sr. Fellow, BCN-Associate Fellow, LCAT, LMHC has been in the field of health care for over 35years. She is a NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor, President of Biofeedback, Mental Health Counseling & Creative Arts Therapy, PLLC., EEG Board Certified Associate Fellow, and a Board Certified Biofeedback Sr. Fellow of the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). Susan is also Past President and past Executive Director of the Northeast Regional Biofeedback Society where she served for 25 years.  She has served as Board Member, Chairperson of the Council of State Chapters & Membership Chair for the American Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB), and was a BCIA Board member. Susan is also a Licensed, Board Certified Art Therapist & a Diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association.

Susan helped to found and was an officer of the Biofeedback & Behavioral Health Practitioners Guild, a professional Union that addressed legislative advocacy & issues of managed care health insurance as they related to the practice of Biofeedback. This effort helped Biofeedback practitioners in NYS to qualify for NYS Licensure (LMHC) if they held BCIA certifications.

She has a private practice on Long Island’s South Shore in Lynbrook, and a satellite office in Babylon, which includes a Biofeedback/Neurofeedback Student Internship & Mentoring Program, Psychotherapy and an Art & Play therapy division. She is in her twelfth year as an Adjunct Professor of Art Therapy at Hofstra University in their Counseling Department, having previously served as an Adjunct Professor, at CW Post, LIU Department of Arts and Performing Arts. She directs a Manhattan Flat Iron office location, having also collaborated with the Manhattan Headache Center.

A survivor of Migraine headache syndrome and Anxiety herself due to having had biofeedback training in the 1970’s, Susan has been successful in helping children, adolescents and adults with many different symptoms and conditions. She feels that psychotherapy combined with biofeedback and neurofeedback form a powerful modality of transformation for her clients and students.
