2019 Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis Auditions for String Players 

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis is the largest all-volunteer orchestra in Indianapolis. Founded in 1941, the Philharmonic is lead by Music Director/Conductor Orcenith Smith, Director of Orchestras at DePauw University. String musicians in Central Indiana interested in playing with the Phil are invited to register to audition on August 24, 2019.

String musicians in Central Indiana who are interested in playing with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis for the 2019-2020 season are invited to register for an audition with the Philharmonic's music director, Orcenith Smith. Please register now to secure a time to audition on August 24, 2019 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. Audition times will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis but we will try to accommodate everyone. You are invited to arrive as early as 9:45 AM to practice/warm-up.

Please prepare 2 works that demonstrate your musical talents. One piece should be fast and technical and the other slow and lyrical. You may also be asked to sight read music from our upcoming season. You will audition privately for 10-15 minutes with Music Director Orcenith Smith. Like the Phil itself, our auditions are friendly and relaxed.

Auditions are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you cannot audition on August 24, please indicate if you are interested in auditioning at another date. We will inform you of other audition opportunities as soon as possible.

2019-2020 concert dates are:

October 1, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Pike Performing Arts Center (PPAC) (This is a side by side concert with the Pike High School Orchestras.)

October 13, 2019 at 3:00 PM at PPAC

October 26, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Central Library

November 23, 2019 at 7:30 PM at PPAC

February 16, 2020 at 3:00 PM at PPAC

April 4, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Central Library

May 17, 2020 at 3:00 PM at PPAC

May 20, 2020 at 10:30 AM at PPAC (Listen Up! Concert for IPS 3rd-grade students.)

June 2020 (TBD) at Garfield Park

Rehearsals are held at Pike High School starting on August 26, 2019 at 7:30 PM.
