Elkin/Grassy Creek Vineyard MST Birthday Hike 

LOCATION: Meet at Grassy Creek Vineyard and then hike through the enchanted forest near Byrd's Campground and on to Carter Falls

HIKE DESCRIPTION: The hike will start at the Grassy Creek Vineyard Tasting Room in State Road, NC. Hikers will travel through a wooded spur trail for approximately a half mile from the vineyard to the Mountains to Sea Trail. Hikers will soon travel through an enchanted forest area and into the Byrd Branch Campground area. From there, hikers will travel on the trail to Carter Falls. After enjoying time at Carter Falls, hikers will return to the vineyard where they can enjoy a glass of wine at the tasting room.  Also, after the hike, Elkin Valley Trails Association will be holding a trail workday at Carter Falls to construct the "Power House" trail which will become the MST.

LENGTH OF HIKE: 4 Miles

DIFFICULTY: Easy

MEETING LOCATION: Grassy Creek Vineyard Tasting Room. 235 Chatham Cottage Lane, State Rd, NC.

STICK AROUND ELKIN: Consider working with the Elkin Valley Trails Association to build a new section of the MST, immediately after the hike.  (Details on EVTA's website soon.) Enjoy a beer after the hike at Skull Camp Brewing; make sure to check out the Tr’ale B’red. A portion of the proceeds from this red ale go to Elkin Valley Trail Association to help trail building efforts in Segment 6.
