Anyone starting a business or is in business who needs to know about intellectual property. 

Overview 

Do you have a product or service you really believe in? Want to know how to protect its uniqueness and originality, especially when it comes to E-Commerce? If so, you may want to learn from an intellectual property attorney and an IT expert how to protect your E-Commerce. 

This workshop will help you better understand methods of protecting intellectual property, including creative works, distinctive names, and new inventions.  It will discuss which type of protection is appropriate for the product or service you want to safeguard.  The class will include how to protect your E-Commerce and website.

At the end of this workshop you will have the knowledge and resources to:

  • Understand the different types of intellectual property and differences between them
  • Understand patents and the patent application process
  • Understand trademarks, their relation to the internet and your website and the application process
  • Understand copyrights, the application process and how they can be used to protect your website’s creative content and software
  • Understand the use of trade secret protection23
  • Understand proper use of email marketing

About the Speakers

Jim Alles

web design, specifically for increasing revenues. A SCORE NYC Mentor, Jim has many SCORE clients involving websites and
e-commerce.

Madeline Baer, Esq.

Madeline Baer is an intellectual property attorney. She has a background as Partner and Counsel to major law firms in New York city. Her areas of expertise include patents, copyrights trademarks, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. She received a PhD From Yale University and a JD from Quinnipiac University School of Law and is a SCORE NYC certified mentor.
