A New Era for Tobacco: Navigating a Changing Landscape

The first Greater Cincinnati Tobacco Summit will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Xavier University’s Cintas Center, 1624 Herald Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45207.

Description:

"A New Era for Tobacco: Navigating a Changing Landscape" will examine the state of tobacco in our region and how our community is responding amid shifts in policy, industry tactics and public opinion. Highlights will include:

  • The release of new data about tobacco use in Greater Cincinnati.
  • A keynote address by Brian King, Deputy Director for Research Translation at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office of Smoking and Health.
  • Networking from 2 to 3 p.m., which will include refreshments and a question-and-answer session about the data and new funding opportunities. 

A light breakfast and lunch will be served.

There is no cost to attend, however, registration is required. 

Participants who register for the workshop and do not attend will be charged a $75 cancellation fee. Participants who cancel their registration on or before 5 p.m. on Friday Aug. 30, 2019 will have the fee waived. Keynote Speaker

Dr. Brian King has worked for over a decade to provide sound scientific evidence to inform tobacco control policy and to effectively communicate this information to key stakeholders, including decision makers, the media, and the general public. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles pertaining to tobacco prevention and control, was a contributing author to the 50th Anniversary Surgeon General’s Report on Smoking and Health, was the lead author of CDC’s 2014 update to the evidence-based state guide, “Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs,” and was the senior associate editor of the 2016 Surgeon General’s Report, “E-cigarette Use Among Youth and Young Adults.”

Ohio chemical dependency counselors and prevention specialists: This program has been approved to offer Continuing Education Units(CEU) by the State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Approved Provider # 50-17807

Certified health education specialists: This program has been approved to offer Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) by The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Multiple Event Provider # 101535.

After program completion, program attendees who requested CEUs will be emailed a certificate of attendance noting CEUs awarded.
