Financial technology innovations, enabled by big data analytics using advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning and facilitated by distributed ledger (or blockchain) technologies (DLT) are revolutionizing how business is conducted in many industries.
After the 2008 global financial crisis, the financial services sector entered a new regime defined by two key forces. The first force was the wave of significant regulatory changes that swept the entire industry and the second was created by the confluence of advances in computing technologies, availability of "big-data," and the plausibility of the adoption of novel methodologies in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Simultaneously, innovations in distributed ledger (blockchain) technologies are producing excitement and activity in developing novel business models, both in the financial services sector and beyond.
In this workshop, we bring together speakers from industry, regulatory entities, and academics with a range of research interests for an active discussion on the current opportunities and challenges of financial technologies, review of their current adoption and a look to the future.
