Over the last year, the number of refugees and displaced people across the world has grown to more than 70 million – more than any time in history. Because of our experiences and our values, the Jewish people have a unique connection to these most vulnerable people. Join Nikki Salzman, Major Gifts Officer at HIAS, to learn more about Jewish displacement in history and the current global refugee crisis, and explore how Jewish values call on us to respond.

Nikki will be speaking at Temple Shir Shalom during Friday night services on August 23 and the following morning, Saturday, August 24 at Congregation B’nai Israel.

Nikki Salzman is the Major Gifts Officer at HIAS, the global Jewish nonprofit that protects refugees whose lives are in danger for being who they are. Nikki works with supporters in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southeast, helping them learn about HIAS’ work and what they can do to help refugees and asylum seekers. She has nearly a decade of experience working in Jewish communal organizations including serving at Washington Hebrew Congregation and the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America.
