Meeting Objective: To build the capacity of public and school library staff to ensure more Idaho children are reading on grade level by third grade.

Desired Outcomes:
Day 1 (Meeting Diverse Needs):  Participants will

  • understand how privilege can negatively impact a library's ability to effectively serve all patrons in its community.
  • understand the personal privileges they bring to their library setting.
  • will have the ability to choose high quality children’s books by and about diverse groups of people.
  • will critically apply concepts to assess inclusion and develop ways to meet diverse needs in their library setting.

Day 2 (Kindergarten Readiness, Leveraging Partnerships and Resources): Participants will

  • learn how Early STEM activities support the development of Early Literacy skills, and vice versa.
  • have tools and resources to identify how their library can support and advance school readiness in their communities.
  • cultivate traditional and nontraditional partnerships in their communities that leverage resources to advance school readiness and establish the library’s role as a valuable part of the early learning community.
