Charitable Remainder Trusts -- A Deep Dive

Program Description:
The presentation will take a deep dive into charitable remainder trusts - starting with the basic requirements for the most common types of charitable remainder trusts and delving into the trickier aspects of setting up a CRT that works for donors and the charities they support.  We will review sample trusts, particular provisions, and planning tips.  We will apply these concepts in case studies of gifts of real property and of closely held business interests, which will highlight possible stumbling blocks in making these gifts and how to avoid them.  We will round out the presentation with a discussion of what happens after a trust terminates.

Karl Mill, Attorney
Adler & Colvin

Mr. Mill’s practice focuses on the representation of a wide variety of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, including both public charities and private foundations, with a particular emphasis on charitable gift planning, federal tax law, and social enterprise.
