Title II—SSDI, SSCDB, SSDWB and Related Work Incentives
The fear of loss of benefits can cause many people to abandon or unnecessarily limit their dreams for employment. They remain tethered to benefits and therefore do not achieve the financial success they could, if they had clear and accurate information about their benefits and the related work incentives, to make informed choices about employment.

Title II benefits are Social Security Cash benefits drawn from an individual’s own work history (Disability Insurance), the work history of a parent (Childhood Disability), or the work history of a deceased spouse (Disabled Widow/Widower). This webinar explains who qualifies for these benefits, how earnings impact the benefits, and how key work incentives can assist people to achieve employment without fear of losing essential benefits.
Join Susan Harrell and Scott Leonard for the second in a four-part series on cash, medical and housing benefits and work incentives which can assist with achieving employment while enhancing opportunities to protect the most essential benefits. Many people decrease reliance on benefits once they understand the safety nets available to help them move towards success and attainment of greater income through employment.
This training series is a collaborative effort between the Health Care Authority-Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, Becoming Employed Starts Today (BEST) project funded by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Trainers:
Susan Harrell has worked with and on behalf of people with disabilities through direct service, service agency management, and governmental and agency consulting since 1985, with a specific focus on employment as essential to assuring community integration, financial stability, and quality of life. Susan specializes in the following consultation and training topics: Job Development; Job Coaching; Social Security and Medical Benefits; Work Incentives; Individual Resource Development; Person-Centered Planning; and Policies and Regulations Related to employment and the Self-Sufficiency of Individuals with Disabilities. Susan recently obtained a Certificate in Advanced Professional Development for Assistive Technology Applications from California State University, Northridge.
Scott Leonard has worked in the field of disabilities for over twenty years, focusing on services that support people with disabilities to become successfully employed. Employed as a benefits planner for 10 years through the King County Developmental Disabilities Division, he currently provides education and consultation to individuals, families, and organizations around public benefits, emphasizing that people can work and build wealth while maintaining critical services. Scott offers training and consultation on State and Federal benefits, including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, Home and Community Based Services, and Work Incentives. Scott holds a degree in Psychology and is trained in Benefits Planning and Outreach (BPAO) through Cornell University.
