The BookLover's Guide to Online Resources - Webinar (12/17/19)

Thirty years ago the book-loving world was learning how to use the Internet. Publishers, bookstores, and libraries were putting titles online, reviews were popping up on many platforms, and obscure resources for the book arts were advertising their wares to new audiences.

Libraries support at least four kinds of booklovers: readers, reviewers, writers, and those who cherish their own collections of books as well as people who work in and support libraries. What classic book-related sites, some of which have been around for more than a generation, should everyone know about? How about newer resources and those off the beaten track?

The focus of this webinar is the civilian booklover who organizes their home collection by color and size and gobbles up favorite authors and genres like jelly beans. Topics include how library customers have different needs than librarians and rules don’t apply, caveats to share regarding review sites, taking care of home collections, and introducing your library customers to book arts.

Virtual Trainer: Pat Wagner

Pat Wagner has been as a trainer and consultant for the library community since 1978. She is a frequent visitor to Florida libraries and speaks at national and regional library conferences as well as contributes to several online library training organizations.

She is the author of The Bloomsbury Review Booklover’s Guide and lives in a cozy bungalow with 3200 books, two cats, and a husband. She has been involved in the book world as an author, reviewer, publisher, and bookstore manager, and knows how to mix wheat paste and shave the corners of a goatskin cover.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
