Trauma & Addiction

Toward a New Understanding
.
20 years ago trauma was not common in
discussions or our response to addiction.
Now it is.
This is good.
But  the journey here was not a
smooth or direct one.
Did we land in a good place?
Have we integrated the learning about 'trauma',
it's various contributing factors?

Are we doing things that do not help or may even cause pain?
How does 'focus on the postive' work with people who abjectly fear success?

_______________

The Day:

Join this important educational discussion forum to help us discern where we are with trauma and addiction and what might be incomplete, inappropriate or fundamentally needed.  We will open with an agreed approach to the day, then use facilitated discussion and short educational segments to gather where you, the participants are with trauma and addiction, then look at ways to better serve folks.

We will learn as much from each other as from the conversation.

Some questions we may strive to answer

Is Dr. Maté right? - "All addiction is based in childhood pain."
  • What is "Catastrophic Abstinence"?
  • How are Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms similar to Acquired Brain Injury and why does it matter?
  • What is a larger variable than accessible services?
  • Brain Injury burst in to the addiction awareness a few years ago - what is next?
  •  Your ideas, questions, and wisdom to collect and share.

______________
Goals/Outcomes:

This day will help you have a better understanding of where you are with trauma and addiction.
