Quarry Park Invasive Bush Honeysuckle Project

This 10-acre park used to be a quarry that stories say provided stone for the 1904 World's Fair. A paved walking trail leads from the main parking lot at the entrance then to an overlook. A rugged figure-8 nature trail loops around boulders and goes along the creek. The beautiful scenery-including big boulders and rock walls where geologists found imprints of prehistoric seashells in the formations-is completely hidden by invasive bush honeysuckle. Volunteer to help bring back the landscape!

Location: 1703 Marshall Road, Kirkwood, MO 63122. Once you enter the park, continue driving SLOWLY (under 5 mph) on the paved walking trail to the accessible parking lot. Watch out for walkers!!

What to Expect: Upon arrival, please sign in on the event registration sheet. After everyone signs in, I will go over plant identification and discuss proper cutting techniques.

We will work in teams of cutter and dragger. Some volunteers will cut the honeysuckle down using hand tools (loppers or handsaws). Other volunteers will drag the cut honeysuckle to a designated spot. A staff person will take the stacks and chip the honeysuckle at a later date. I will supply snacks, water, gloves, and hand tools.

Tools: I should have enough hand tools for everyone. I will have eye protection glasses and plenty of gloves. You are welcome to bring your own hand tools and garden gloves.

What to wear: Please dress in clothing you can get dirty. Wear long pants, socks, closed-toe shoes, and long sleeve shirt. This is a very physical activity so you may want to dress in layers.

Release to volunteer: Youth, under the age of 18, will need to have a parent/guardian sign permission allowing his/her child to volunteer. No minor can volunteer without parental consent.
