This seminar will discuss the operation of IRC Section 199A, which allows a deduction of up to 20 percent for owners of passthrough entities. The mechanics of the statute will be illuminated by reference to examples, illustrations, and tables. Mr. Silverman will lecture from his recent journal article entitled "A Journey Through IRC Section 199A: Wasn't the Code to be Simplified?"

About the Speaker:

David L. Silverman, J.D., LL.M., graduated from Columbia Law School and received an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU School of Law. Mr. Silverman's practice encompasses all areas of federal and New York State taxation, including tax and estate planning, federal tax litigation in the Eastern and Southern Districts, New York State tax litigation, tax and civil appeals.  Mr. Silverman also has experience in  probate and estate administration, wills and trust, will contests and contested estates, Article 78 Proceedings, Section 1031 like kind exchanges, private letter rulings, prenuptial agreements, and FBAR matters. David is an approved sponsor with the NYS Board of Public Accountants, and lectures frequently in his areas of practice. His treatise, "Like Kind Exchanges of Real Estate under IRC Sec. 1031" is an authoritative work on the subject. Mr. Silverman was formerly associated with Pryor Cashman, LLP, in Manhattan, and is a former editor of the American Bar Association Taxation Newsletter. His office publishes Tax News & Comment.
