Graduate School of Education
Network for Experiential Teaching & Learning (NExT)
Presents:
The NExT Charlotte Pop Up is an event designed to bring schools, local businesses, and members of the community together to talk about inclusive prosperity for all.
As the landscape of technology, networks, politics, and employment changes, there is a need to rethink education and educational opportunity at all levels, especially for learners from underserved communities. Charlotte has historically been challenged with regard to inclusive prosperity, a belief that all people should have access to the tools and experiences needed for economic prosperity. The Opportunity Taskforce in Charlotte found the following barriers to gainful employment: early care and education, family and child stability, college and career readiness, social capital and the impact of segregation. (Opportunity Task Force Report).
Educational experiences and training are key aspects of improving economic opportunity through supporting college and career readiness. Given the changes in the society, teaching people to become content experts is no longer viable. Instead, people need learning experiences that will help them become lifelong learners in a quickly changing world, able to reskill and adapt as needed. Also, with changes in technology, people need to become more adept at using problem solving and creativity. Experiential education can also help be a way to achieve gainful employment and help learners find their passion.
Join us for a conversation among schools, universities, and industry partners about what’s needed in K-12 education and how we can collaboratively build a stronger community of learners in Charlotte.
