Connections Matter Training and Resilience Screening

The Prevention and Community Support Section and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia will be cohosting a Connections Matter training and a screening of the documentary Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope.

Connections Matter

As statewide leaders of primary prevention in the area of child abuse, the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy (GCCA) and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia (PCA GA) have created a collaborative to effectively educate communities about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). This collaborative is a trauma-informed response to ACEs and serves as a community outreach and engagement platform.  Essential to the collaborative is partnering with local experienced trainers.  This versatile training is designed for adult audiences.

Connections Matter is a training designed to engage community members in building caring connections to improve resiliency. The training, which originated in Iowa, was developed by Prevent Child Abuse Iowa.

The Connections Matter training will be four hours, from 10 am -  2 pm and will be conducted by Julia Neighbors, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and Deborah Chosewood, Deputy Director of Prevention and Community Support.  Lunch will be provided.

Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope

RESILIENCE: THE BIOLOGY OF STRESS & THE SCIENCE OF HOPE chronicles the birth of a new movement among pediatricians, therapists, educators and communities, who are using cutting-edge brain science to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease. The 60 minute film will be shown from 2 pm - 3 pm in the Appleton Auditorium.  The film was produced by KPJR Films.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists will include Julia Neighbors, Executive Director of PCA GA; Natalie Towns, Section Director of Prevention and Community Support; David Earnest, CEO and Executive Director of Brightpaths (PCA Athens); Tim Johnson, Executive Director of Family Connection - Communities in Schools of Athens-Clarke County; and more to be announced.
