In addition, students from the Howard Community College Dental Hygiene Program will be hosting a bake sale!

Speaker: Dr. Marie Coffelt and Dr. Sandra Selnick

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Coffelt grew up in Northern Virginia. She graduated with a Biology Degree from Randolph Macon College and earned her Doctoral Degree in Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia. She then entered the Advanced General Dentistry Residency program at the University of Maryland Dental School. Her love for creating beautiful smiles led her to the University of Louisville for a two year orthodontic residency program where she earned her specialty certification in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and simultaneously obtained her Master’s Degree in Oral Biology.

Her extensive orthodontic experience includes owning her own practice in Centreville, Virginia and working with international educator and speaker Dr. Alan Bagden in Springfield, Virginia. She has taught many in-office courses to orthodontists from around the world and lectured at orthodontic and dental forums on the Damon bracket system which we use in our offices as well.

Dr. Coffelt looks forward to meeting new patients, developing new relationships and creating new smiles at OX Orthodontix.

Outside the office, Dr. Coffelt enjoys spending time with her family, playing tennis, coaching junior tennis players and enhancing her photography skills.

Course Description:

This course will provide a review for the dental hygienist on how to recognize typical orthodontic problems seen in the general dental practice. Included in the presentation are common situations diagnosed in young children and teens and when is the best time to refer to the orthodontist. Discussions will include how to communicate to parents the benefits of early intervention and the potential need for orthodontic treatment, as well as, reasons to refer an adult for orthodontic treatment as part of their comprehensive dental care. Cases will be shown showing various treatment modalities and how Invisalign can now be used to treat all phases of orthodontics.
