ACCESS: HEALTH CARE

A CONFERENCE FROM CAPITOL WEEKLY

Capitol Weekly presents:
Access: Health Care – September 26, 2019

Join Capitol Weekly for Access: Health Care, a day-long conference on California Health Care policy to be held on September 26, 2019, in Sacramento.

Our annual look at health care in the Golden State focuses this year on access to health care in the Golden State: who has it, who doesn’t and what is changing. Governor Newsom made health care a central part of his platform, and has called for an expansion of coverage. Three panels of experts will discuss the current status of access to health care, and will look at what comes next.

Senator Richard Pan will deliver the Keynote.

Other confirmed speakers include: Flo Kahn, PhRMA; Craig Cornett, California Association of Health Facilities; Liz Oseguera, California Primary Care Association; Charles Bacchi, California Association of Health Plans; Jane Ogle, California Health Policy Strategies; Chris Perrone, California Health Care Foundation; Heather Young, UC Davis Health; Heather Harrison, California Assisted Living Association; Almas Sayeed, California Immigrant Policy Center; Linda Tenerowicz; California Pan-Ethnic Health Network; Ben Johnson, Legislative Analyst's Office; Gretchen Alkema,Scan Foundation; Erin Kelly, Children's Specialty Care Coalition; Katie Orr, KQED; Cathie Anderson, Sacramento Bee; Rich Ehisen, State Net Capitol Journal.

Three panels of experts will present fast-paced discussions of these issues and look at potential solutions:

Panel 1: The Hurdles to Access
Access to quality health care is the single most important aspect of the health care debate, and there are a lot of moving parts. Costs, the availability of trained medical personnel, insurance, Medi-Cal, the state-federal relationship -- and more.

Panel 2: The Silver Tsunami
As people live longer, the challenges of providing health care to an expanding, aging population are immense. It's known as the Silver Tsunami or Grey Wave, and it's already lapping at our shores.
.
Panel 3: Underserved Communities
Providing health care for certain communities has been difficult -- transitory people, undocumented immigrants, the mentally ill, those suffering from substance and alcohol abuse, migrant workers, the homeless and others.
