Thursday, October 10th at 3:30pm - 5pm Pacific USA

Implementing School-Wide Restorative Practices (SWRPs): Setting Your School Up for Success!

There is so much more to implementing school-wide restorative practices than training workshops and circles. When choosing to adopt Restorative Justice in Education (RJE), administrators need a wide-angle lens to see the big picture. Dr. Martha Brown will provide an overview of the factors administrators, principals and implementation teams should consider when planning to implement school-wide restorative practices and scale-up district-wide restorative practices.

NOTE: Some prior knowledge of RJE is highly recommended for webinar attendees.

BIO: Dr. Martha Brown is author of Creating Restorative Schools: Setting Schools Up to Succeed and is the author and instructor of the online course, Restorative Justice in Educational Settings offered through Simon Fraser University’s Continuing Studies department. Dr. Brown is founder and president of RJAE Consulting and provides strategic planning, implementation and monitoring services to schools and districts implementing restorative justice.

Dr. Brown’s book, Creating Restorative Schools: Setting Schools Up to Succeed, is available from Living Justice Press who offers a substantial discount to schools and districts who purchase multiple copies of the book.

Session Two: The Art of Integrating Multiple School Climate Initiatives with Kerri Berkowitz
 Thursday, October 17th at 3:30pm - 5pm Pacific US

Educators often question the compatibility and wonder whether it’s possible to integrate and implement multiple school climate initiatives simultaneously.

This session provides answers to these questions by presenting a step-by-step process for utilizing a simple, but comprehensive visual map that categorizes core features of school climate as a system with multiple moving parts that influence one another.  The session will present how this visual map serves as a general guide for implementation rollout of restorative practices as well as a tool for integrating multiple climate initiates such as Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, Trauma informed care and practice, Racial Equity, Social Emotional Learning, and Mindfulness providing a structure and clear direction for one seamless and sustainable school climate transformation effort over time.

Key Takeaway Points
    •    Visual map of school climate system
    •    Instructions for how to use this visual map for: a. Restorative Practices implementation and b. School climate initiative integration

BIO: For the past decade Kerri Berkowitz has partnered with multiple school systems in the successful transformation of school climate and equitable disciplinary practices through the implementation of Restorative Practices (RP).  As the former RP Administrator for San Francisco Unified School District, Kerri established a strong infrastructure for a sustainable district-wide RP implementation rollout. In 2014 Kerri founded the Center for Relational Practices and has partnered with multiple schools and districts across the nation, predominantly in California and Alaska (her favorite place to kayak among the whales), specializing in RP training, implementation strategic planning and coaching, and the integration of school climate initiatives. Session Three: Readiness Assessment with Martha Brown, Ph.D

Thursday, October 24th at 3:30pm - 5pm Pacific US

Assessing Your School’s Readiness for Restorative Justice in Education (RJE)

You're an administrator thinking of implementing Restorative Justice in Education (RJE) in your school or district. You might have even started. You already know it takes time, money, training, support, resources and a systems approach. Ever wonder why great programs and initiatives fail in schools? They weren’t ready for it. But what does “readiness” mean? This webinar will introduce you to readiness assessments and how RJAE Consulting’s restorative justice-specific readiness assessment can set you up for success.

Readiness looks at the extent to which the people in your school are willing and able to implement RJE. Most schools have strengths and weaknesses, and readiness assessments allow you to know exactly what those are. By looking at motivation and capacity, we can determine what you are really good at and help you start implementing RJE from a strengths-based perspective. Readiness assessment reports are great tools for administrators, principals, staff, and RJ trainers because you know exactly how to spend time and resources. How do we know things are changing? We use the readiness assessment over time as one tool to monitor implementation.

NOTE: Some prior knowledge of RJE is highly recommended for webinar attendees.
