Understanding and Supporting those Impacted by Borderline Personality Disorder

This training event will award 2 contact hours for licensed Social Workers with the NYSED State Board for Social Work* and licensed Mental Health Counselors** and licensed Marriage and Family Therapists*** with the State Board for Mental Health Practitioners  and 2 CASAC renewal credits (OASAS approval pending).

Presenters:  Paula Tusiani-Eng, Executive Director of Emotions Matter Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to educate, support, and advocate for those impacted by borderline personality disorder (BPD).  Maria Solomon, Emotions Matter board member and Senior Social Worker at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Payne Whitney Day Treatment Program and team.

Affecting up to 6% of the population, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is among the most serious, and yet often misunderstood mental diagnoses.  This workshop will explore borderline personality disorder from the perspective of current research, evidence-based treatments, best practices, and community resources to support recovery.
It will explore common misperceptions about borderline personality disorder, demonstrating how attitudes toward BPD impacts access to care and community resources. We will identify barriers to treatment and how individuals, families and professional can help support those impacted by BPD.  The goal is to promote compassion by emphasizing the lived experience of BPD and professionals working with the BPD population who will share first-hand knowledge as part of the presentation.
BPD is a disability affecting one’s ability to function in the community, such as maintaining employment, educational goals, relationships, and social functioning.  Emotions Matter will share how we have created programs to support those with lived experience to sustain recovery goals and live meaningful, fulfilling lives.  Resources will available. www.emotionsmatterbpd.org
