Program Description:
This workshop will explore the non-traditional retirement strategies of the FIRE movement (Financial Independence/Retiring Early). Learn how the FIRE community thinks about finances and how they plan to make their money work over extended timeframes. Explore withdrawal strategies, alternative income opportunities, and dealing with expenses in early retirement. This discussion will provide financial planners an opportunity to become conversant with the FIRE movement and incorporate the movement’s lessons into the guidance they provide their own clients as they consider an alternative paradigm.
Speaker's Bio:
Dylin Redling, Co-Founder, Retire by 45
Dylin Redling has been a member of the FIRE community since early 2015. After he and his wife, Allison, were laid off from their San Francisco startup jobs, they analyzed the numbers and realized they had invested enough money to be financially independent. In 2016, they launched the site RetireBy45.com to provide resources, tips, and inspiration for becoming financially independent and retiring early.
Dylin has been written about and contributed to such sites as Quora (Most viewed writer in Retirement Planning), CNBC, Yahoo Finance, Investor’s Business Daily, RealtyShares, Rockstar Finance, and Business Insider. Last year, he spoke at FinCon18, a conference with 2000+ personal finance content creators and influencers.
Prior to retiring, Dylin worked in the tech industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was Director of Marketing at several startups including Tickle, Lumosity, and Basis. Dylin has also created several small businesses around consulting and affiliate marketing.
Dylin and Allison have lived in the Bay Area since 1996 and now reside in Oakland’s Jack London Square. Dylin has a BA in Marketing from The Ohio State University.
