Song Dynasty Herbs & Acupuncture

Arguably, Chinese medicine reached its pinnacle during the Song Dynasty with extensive patronage from the imperial court, which paved the way for innovative ideas evolving into new traditions and styles. While most of these developments generated deeper and more intricate treatment strategies and principles for herbal medicine, acupuncture began to decline and eventually became regulated to primarily acute conditions and pain management.

In this three-day workshop, Jeffrey Yuen will discuss the transitions that occurred during the Song Dynasty and its subsequent impact on herbal medicine and acupuncture taking into consideration the political, social, and economic factors of this time period.  We will explore treatment plans using the Song Dynasty perspective on acupuncture and herbal medicine.
