There are many financial scams. Strange calls asking for your Social Security Number. A romantic partner controlling your finances. Caregivers exploiting the elderly. A family member making suspicious cash withdrawals. Predatory loans. Someone claiming they need your bank account number to stop a scam.  

Meet around the table with neighbors and the Community Foundation to discuss your ideas about the issue of financial scams. This free gathering is open to anyone who cares.

For more than two decades the Community Foundation has convened civic leaders, nonprofits, and its donors to channel their resources to make our region stronger. We invite you to participate in our newest initiative: Preventing Financial Scams.

Previous initiatives included a series of Community Convenings around the issue of Youth Homelessness in 2013 and 2014.  In 2016 the Community Foundation continued this tradition, and organized the large populations of family caregivers and service providers as part of the Caregiver Support Initiative, resulting in the creation of the Washoe Caregivers Guidebook and https://washoecaregivers.org/ 

We continue to engage everyday residents in ways to strengthen our community.
