The story of God is well told through the lens of two words -- hospitality and embassy. In creation, God makes hospitable room for us within the Divine life. In the Incarnation, God makes an embassy in our midst. It is thus no surprise that Jesus spends much of his earthy ministry doing these very same things -- welcoming people to sit and eat with him, and being regularly received and cared for by others. This study day will apply these two concepts as the basis for reflecting on the importance of the ecumenical and interreligious vocations of the Church in this age of ecclesial transition.
Please join Bishop Robertson as we welcome The Reverend Canon Doctor Scott Sharman to lead us in a day of prayer and study.
BIOGRAPHY: The Reverend Canon Doctor Scott Sharman is a deacon and priest in the Anglican tradition, based in the Diocese of Edmonton. He currently splits his time between two ministry roles: At the national level, he is the Animator for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations for the Anglican Church of Canada, representing the Primate and the General Synod around numerous tables of dialogue for the purpose of building understanding and partnership between faith communities. Locally in Edmonton he serves as the Canon Theologian in Mission, assisting the Bishop in the area of theological education and clergy formation, and various other duties as assigned. Scott completed a Doctorate in Historical Theology in 2014 at the Toronto School of Theology, where his research focused on the ecclesiological foundations of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. When not working Scott enjoys a very full and busy life with his spouse, Alexandra, who is the Dean of All Saints Cathedral in Edmonton, and their three children, Elliot, Felix, and Graeme. One of their favourite things to do is to host people in their home, and to cook for them.
