About Keynote Speaker, Tony Avent

Tony Avent is a renowned plantsman and proprietor living in Raleigh, North Carolina where he founded Plant Delights Nursery and the Juniper Level Botanical Garden, which holds almost 25,000 unique accessions as of May of 2018. Mr. Avent has traveled internationally for plant exploration including trips to Mexico, China, Korea, Argentina, South Africa, Thailand, Taiwan, Crete, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Vietnam and nearly 70 other plant expeditions in the US.  Due to his entertaining style Mr. Avent frequently lectures internationally and is a sought-after plant auctioneer. He is a hybridizer of many plants including Hostas, Baptisias, Mahonias, rare bulbs and hardy aroids yet also promotes esoteric species and underutilized native plants. Mr. Avent has won numerous horticulture awards, most recently the Don Shadow Award of Excellence from the Southern Nursery Association. He is currently a contributing Editor of Fine Gardening magazine, and has appeared in numerous television shows, including Cultivating Life with Sean Conway on PBS, and Martha Stewart Living on HGTV.
