MGS-GI October Meeting
Please join us for our first meeting of the 2019-2020 calendar year on Wednesday, October 9th. Steve Johnson of Bolander will present, "3-story Excavations, The Archive & The Gateway Tower: 2 Different Approaches".
ABSTRACT:
Carl Bolander and Sons is currently constructing two three story fully retained excavations in downtown Minneapolis for the Archive and Gateway Tower projects. Archive elected for a permanent earth retention system to maximize its building footprint using a combination of drilled & set pile, structural shotcrete walls, and natural bedrock facing. The Gateway Tower employed a more conventional temporary earth retention system using driven pile, tieback anchors, walers, and exposed bedrock. This presentation will discuss the decision making process that led to the selection and explore challenges with delivering them.
