Come prepared to be outdoors for part of the day.  Bring your PPE (hard hat, eye protection, ear protection) for best outdoor viewing. In the event of rain, the workshop will stay indoors for the entire class. Remember to dress for your comfort level indoors as well; we cannot always control the room temperature at all locations.

8:30-9:30   Climber Safety and Electrical Hazards (indoor)

Learn important aspects of general climbing safety and an overview of electrical hazards in arboriculture.

9:30-10:30   Real A300: It Can Be Done (indoor)

We will explore the elusive capabilities triangle, its role in systemic pruning malpractice, and how we can integrate the A300 Pruning Standards into the real world.

10:45-12:00   Professional Tree Climbing (outdoor)

In tree demonstrations will solidify safe climbing practices, movement in the crown, and work positioning.

Steps to take to be prepared for an aerial rescue and demonstrations on safe techniques in relief of an injured climber.

Being aware of safety precautions will not only protect you, but others around you.  This tool for arborists will be discussed from safety, proper use, to necessary maintenance for longer life.

ROB CALLEY
Business Owner - Backridge Tree Service, Inc.
Rob Calley is a Board-Certified Master Arborist and has owned and operated Backridge Tree Service Inc. for 19 years.  Rob holds the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP) and is a certified instructor for the Arborist Safety Training Institute (ASTI).  He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1993.   Rob has served on the Florida Chapter ISA Board for several years and is the incoming president for 2020. He received the International ISA True Professional Award in 2019.

CARSON SMITH 
Operations Manager - O’Neil’s Tree Service
Carson Smith is employed by O’Neil’s Tree Service in Palm Harbor, FL, where he serves as operations manager.  Climbing has been a passion of his since his career starting in 2008 in Evansville, Indiana after his service in the United States Marine Corps.  As Operations Manager, his duties include training, advancing safety, and managing crew to provide the highest standard of tree care. Carson is an ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist, and a TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional.  He currently serves as chairman for the Florida ISA’s Climber Committee and climber representative for the Education Committee.  Carson has been active in the TCC as a climbing competitor and instructor at the Outdoor Tree School.
