Response to Violent Intruders/Active

  Shooters

Speaker: Sergent Kevin Paugh

Sergeant Kevin Paugh joined the Menlo Park Police Department as an officer in 1998.  In July 2000, he was selected to be a member of the MPPD K-9 Unit, a unit he served in for 12 years working two separated K-9s.  Both of Sergeant Paugh’s K-9s were cross-trained in narcotics, K-9/SWAT tactics and deployments, tracking and evidence location.  He is a POST certified K-9 evaluator and currently supervises the MPPD K-9 Unit.

In 2001, Sergeant Paugh joined the Menlo Park Police Firearms Team, a team that trains others in the department in weapon deployment and use.  He is currently the Rangemaster supervising the training program, purchases necessary equipment and ensures officers are equipped with the most effective tools to do their job safely.  He is a certified instructor in handguns, rifles, less lethal devices, Simunitions and Pepperball guns.  He is also an armorer for Colt rifles and Heckler and Koch handguns and is a court certified weapons expert.

Seeing our changing world and the increase in critical incident and active shooter events, Sergeant Paugh has focused on police training, preparation and response to such events.  He has authored a number of response plans for major city businesses and schools and regularly updates them.

Sergent Paugh will cover the following points:

 • Assist with your understanding and response to workplace violence and violent         intruder situations.

 • Give an understanding of police response to workplace violence and violent              intruder situations.

 • Discuss prevention measures. What can you do?
