1040 Tax Update: A year after TCJA, the IRS flooded tax professionals with a deluge of proposed and final regulations. This three hour program has a special emphasis on QBID and the six new tax forms that determine the Section 199A deduction. Included are form changes to the 1040 and schedules 1 through 6, K-1’s and the new 1040-SR and a comprehensive review of the most common TCJA changes. – 3 IRS CPE

The evolution, rules and impact of TCJA are thoroughly examined. Attendees will have a grasp of the fundamentals, elections and vocabulary of depreciation. Significant time is dedicated to bonus and section 179. The rules for vehicles, cost segregation, federally declared disaster areas and farms will be discussed.

3:00 PM - 4:45 PM 1099-K & 1099-Misc, 2 IRS CPE

With the gig economy and MA legislated requirements more clients receive 1099-MISC forms and 1099-K forms. Receipt of a 1099 could be for a non-taxable event. The presentation explains how to handle this and all possible taxable scenarios. Time is set aside to address issues from crowd funding and on-line sales.

Beth Logan, EA, Beth Logan is an Enrolled Agent, the President of the Mass Society of Enrolled Agents, and has a tax practice in Chelmsford, MA. She is also a nationally published author. Her most recent book is “Divorce and Taxes After Tax Reform” (the first book to cover divorce under the new tax law). When she isn’t helping clients with taxes, she consults to small businesses, writes books, stories, and articles, and teaches classes to EA’s and laypersons. She has an MBA from the University of Maryland, College Park, and two electrical engineering degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology. 


Joyce Mohr, EA, is the owner of Taxes Plus, a tax preparation and consulting business in Rockport Maine. She is a graduate of Boston University, an NTPI fellow and MaSEA past president. Joyce has been an enrolled agent and a MASEA member since 2007. She served on the National Association of Enrolled Agents board. She has led tax topic presentations on international, rental and depreciation. She has co-founded “Acacia in Kenya” an outreach project that partners with community leaders in Mumias, Western Kenya to care for and educate the community’s high school girls.


John Pearson, EA has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.  As an Enrolled Agent, John is licensed to represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service. John has an MBA from Northeastern University.  He has been preparing taxes professionally since 2006. John prides himself on resolving complex tax situations and explaining tax law in plain English.


Paul Massa, EA:  Paul has over 35 years of Tax Preparation experience.  Paul prepares individual, small business, and Estate tax returns.  He is an enrolled agent, a past vice-president of CTSEA, and MASEA member. Paul has led Amt, 4797 and QBI presentations and dreams about depreciation.


Mike Rhodes, EA earned his EA in 2015 & has started Representation Services through his tax business in 2017. He has worked representation pro bono cases for the Bentley Low Income Tax Clinic in Waltham and continues to volunteer his services as needed. Mike has been preparing Individual & Business tax returns for 12 years for many different tax agencies including Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, Liberty Tax Service, and Direct Tax Service. He has had his own tax preparation business since 2008. Mike has taught introductory and return preparer tax courses for Liberty Tax Service this past fall and for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service the last several years.

Scott Franklin, EA has a law degree from UMichigan and mortgage loan experience. He has a tax practice in Wellesley. Scott is extremely proficient with the tax issues of stock options, small business and rental property taxes. He provides elder care tax services that encompass gifting, trusts and estate planning. He also is a fine furniture maker.
