1040 Tax Update: A year after TCJA, the IRS flooded tax professionals with a deluge of proposed and final regulations. This three hour program has a special emphasis on QBID and the six new tax forms that determine the Section 199A deduction. Included are form changes to the 1040 and schedules 1 through 6, K-1’s and the new 1040-SR and a comprehensive review of the most common TCJA changes. – 3 IRS CPE

This presentation reviews the impact of TCJA on MA tax filing and includes a comprehensive discussion of Paid Family and Medical Leave, a new tax on W2 employees, businesses and potentially the self-employed. – 1 NAEA CE credit

The evolution, rules and impact of TCJA are thoroughly examined. Attendees will have a grasp of the fundamentals, elections and vocabulary of depreciation. Significant time is dedicated to bonus and section 179. The rules for vehicles, cost segregation, federally declared disaster areas and farms will be discussed.

3:00 PM - 4:45 PM 1099-K & 1099-Misc, 2 IRS CPE

With the gig economy and MA legislated requirements more clients receive 1099-MISC forms and 1099-K forms. Receipt of a 1099 could be for a non-taxable event. The presentation explains how to handle this and all possible taxable scenarios. Time is set aside to address issues from crowd funding and on-line sales.

Learn about our presenters 

Elaine LeBeau, EA is an experienced educator and tax specialist. She is co-owner and founder of MJ Tax in Fairhaven. She has an accounting degree from UMass-Dartmouth. Elaine has many years of experience of a tax professional at HR Block and as a controller at Burns Tools. She has been a Southeast MA leader in the tax industry for decades.

 

 

Jessica Prince, EA is a principle officer at MJ Tax and Business Services in Fairhaven. The business provides tax preparation, payroll services, bookkeeping and business consulting. Jessica has taught sections of the MaSEA SEE Prep program and is an MaSEA Director.

 

Albert Juppé, EA has been an enrolled agent for over two decades with more than three decades of tax experience and four decades of accounting experience. He is the principle owner of Superior Tax Service. He prepares personal and trust tax returns, helps with FASA filings, sets up payment plans, and mitigates audits and appeals. Al has held leadership roles with MaSEA and NAEA and is active in statewide and national enrolled agent support programs. He leads the initiative to launch an EA Mentorship Program. Al hosts a Cape TV Tax Program, The Tax Experts, in its fifth season. There are 80 Vimeo episodes on the internet. Al is a Schuldiner-Smollan Tax Leadership Academy graduate.

 

Lisa A. Wright, EA, MST, is the owner of Bookswright™ Advisors, LLC. She earned her Master of Science in Taxation at Suffolk University along with a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting. She has been working in accounting and tax for 10 years and teaches financial literacy to small business owners.

 

John Warren, EA, is a NTPI fellow and past MaSEA President. He organizes tax talk round tables across the state. He is a co-host of the Lower Cape TV program, “The Tax Experts.” His tax practice is in West Medford, “The Medford Tax Experts.” In 2017, he spearheaded first in the nation legislation to fund low income clinics to resolve MA DOR controversies. Just recently he joined the federal Collection Due Process Summit Initiative.

 

Amit Johar EA graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Finance degree and immediately started his first small business and has been involved in startups and small business operations since then. He understands the day to day challenges that hamper small business growth. He earned a Financial Planner Certificate from Boston University.
His consulting with clients has seen dramatic increases in financial results. He is an MaSEA and active NAEA leader.
