Massanetta Middle School Conference 2020

A conference full of recreation, music, creative workshops, new friends, games, energizers and faith formation centered on a scriptural theme. Plus, youth will get to participate in a mission project with Rise Against Hunger packing over 10,000 meals for others around the world.

Who: All Current 5th-8th graders

**Note for current 8th graders: Montreat and Massanetta are open to current 8th graders. If you can only do one trip this year (Montreat or Massanetta) we highly recommend that you go to Montreat. This really helps our 8th graders get integrated into the high school youth group.

When: Tuesday, June 23-Friday, June 26, 2020

What: The Massanetta Middle School Conference is an outstanding middle school conference (similar to Montreat but for middle schoolers and with a few different formats and activities to better engage middle schoolers). Allysen has had a lot of experience with this conference over the years as a youth, a high school leader, an adult leader and a recreation leader. It never disappoints!  High schoolers that are empowered in leadership with the conference as well as adults who lead the preaching, recreation, music and the creative workshops/activities that engage the youth in the theme.  The conference has a theme based in scripture that the youth explore through energizers, music, keynotes, interactive activities, recreation and discussion with their peers. There is a lot of great recreation time at Massanetta including swimming, canoeing, and a giant recreation event with a giant slip-n-slide and more!

Mission Element: This summer at Massanetta our youth will get to participate in packing over 10,000 meals with Rise Against Hunger!

Theme for this summer’s conference: “In the Potter’s Hands” based on Jeremiah 18:1-6

Location: Massanetta Springs, VA (near Harrisonburg, VA)

Lodging: Our youth will stay in the hotel-like rooms on campus at Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference center.

Transportation: NEW THIS YEAR! We are partnering with St Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody to charter a bus for the trip to Massanetta. This means that we will have a safe driver for the way there and back and that our adults will not have to make the long drive to VA and back after also chaperoning the trip.

Sample Schedule:

- The days are filled with Theme time which includes energizers, singing and reflections for the day on the theme. Youth get to participate in small groups where they play games, discuss the theme and go to “workshops.” Workshops are interactive and creative ways that engage middle schoolers in the theme scripture in fun ways!  Check out massanettasprings.org for more information!

Cost charged per youth: $400

Confidential Scholarships available upon request.

Dec. 8, 2019 Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser & May 3rd- BBQ Fundraiser for Summer trips after church (set up in morning). All youth and their families going on trips should plan to help out. Pre-trip meeting:TBD

**Participate in 2 DPC Youth* Group events during Spring 2020. We always hope that our summer trips create and enhance a youth’s long-lasting relationships with God and their church family (near and far). We also hope that our youth put their faith in action by gathering in community, worshipping, and serving others not just for one week in the summer but all year round. Thus, we encourage youth going on summer trips to join us throughout the year!  Please see the Spring calendar for dates. For those going on a mission trip we encourage one of your 2 youth group events to be a service project!

*Note for Current 5th graders: You will be invited to join us for youth group and summer trip prep on April 19th. Since you aren’t in youth group just yet, we encourage you to participate in some ministry with DPC where you can get to know others in the church (i.e. Choir, Club 45, Sunday School, Wednesday Night programs. Contact Emily Wilmesherr for updated information on current Children’s Ministry programs).
