Teaching for Engagement:
Integrated Units that Bring Joy to
Students and Teachers

Teachers often ask,” How do I incorporate all of the standards while engaging students in a project-based, hands-on learning environment?”  This course will provide the theory, practice and supported time to help teachers create units of study that they can immediately implement in their own classroom to engage learners.  Work time will be differentiated to support teachers in K-8 classrooms of all subj

Teachers will create a unit incorporating:

National, state, and local standards that are meaningful to you and your school (CCSS, NGSS, C3 Social Studies Standards, etc.
Transferable Skills
Universal Design for Learning and Project-Based Learning structures
A proficiency-based grading structure

Throughout the week participants will create a unit of their design that integrates the above elements; this final project is a unit that can be immediately implemented.  These units will be assessed by instructors, using a proficiency-based grading model. Participants will also create a personalized learning plan based on their individual goals and track their progress throughout the week.   Instructors will use a workshop model to demonstrate sample lessons, provide time to read and discuss research and support independent/group unit design.  Demonstrations will include videos, live modeling of lessons, and guest speakers. Participants will value being taught in the way we all strive to deliver instruction in our K - 8 classrooms.
