Sunset Tour of Ambrose Channel

Popularly regarded as NLM’s “Signature Tour” this exciting boat tour familiarizes passengers with key lighthouses that facilitate safe passage from the Atlantic Ocean into Lower New York Harbor. 

We explore a total of nine lighthouses on this boat tour: the Battery Weed Light at Fort Wadsworth, the Coney Island, West Bank, Romer Shoals, Sandy Hook and Twin Lighthouse of Navesink at the Atlantic Highlands, the Staten Island Rear Range at Richmond Hill, the New Dorp Light, and the Elm Tree Beacon at Miller Field, also located in New Dorp. 

After sailing past historic Forts Wadsworth and Hamilton at the Narrows, we head under the Verrazzano Bridge passing the former Quarantine stations of Hoffman and Swinburne Islands. We then head toward the Coney Island Lighthouse, where Frank Schubert, NYC’s last Light Keeper, resided for 40 years. 

Enroute to the Sandy Hook Light, which is situated near the tip of an eight mile spit at Fort Hancock, a coastal defense base that once guarded the approach of NY Harbor, we learn about the role this proud and historic beacon has played on behalf of NYC’s maritime trade and commerce over the centuries. 

Cruising toward the Atlantic Highlands past the towns of Keyport and Leonardo, home to Naval Weapons Station Earle in the distance, we can see Mount Mitchill, the highest point on the Atlantic coast from Maine to Mexico east, and, closer to the Atlantic Ocean, the stunning Atlantic Highlands overlook, home to one of the most spectacular lighthouses in America, the Navesink Twin Light Station, the very first structure immigrants to America could see following an Atlantic crossing. 

Upon our return through the Ambrose Channel we learn about the history of the stalwart West Bank and Romer Lighthouses and how they operate in conjunction with the powerful Staten Island Rear Range Light to facilitate a safe passage for mariners heading towards NYC. At dusk, we are treated to a memorable image: the bright and powerful lens emanating from Staten Island’s Rear Range Light, located atop Richmond Hill aka Lighthouse Hill.

This season we will be yachting on the Majestic Princess which features climate-controlled interior spaces with large windows as well as ample outdoor space to fully enjoy the "yachting experience." A buffet dinner will be served and  the Majestic Princess features a cash bar for "adult beverages" if you so desire.  

Treat yourself or a special someone to a memorable evening cruise.   Don't forget your cameras. The views are incredible! The boat leaves promptly at 6:30 pm, rain or shine, from Pier 1, adjacent to the National Lighthouse Museum.

Tickets are $77 Adults, $42 Children (10yrs. & under). Tickets are non-refundable.

• This tour is schedule to arrive back at port by 9:30pm however tide and currents may increase the time needed to return to the dock. Please plan accordingly. 
• Due to space and safety requirements, large coolers are not permitted on board, only very small carry-ons. Refreshments available for purchase on board.
