Multi-Disciplinary Speed Management 

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Rural Safety Center) is hosting a FREE, 1.5-hour online webinar.

Webinar Description
This webinar will stress the importance of targeted traffic enforcement of speeders and feature speed management techniques and resources from a multi-disciplinary panel of speakers including the Governors Highway Safety Association, the Law Enforcement Liaison Program, Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the Vision Zero Network. 

Webinar Outcomes
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe behavioral highway safety trends and countermeasures in speed management;
  • Illustrate the importance of targeted traffic enforcement of speeders; and
  • Identify resources available for speed management. 

Target Audience
This training is directed towards a very broad safety audience including, but not limited to, law enforcement, planners, engineers, first responders, elected officials, public health, tourism agencies, and safety culture experts. Participants should have some basic familiarity with transportation safety.

Course Presenters

Russ Martin, Director of Policy and Government Relations, GHSA

Russ is Director of Policy and Government Relations for the Governor’s Highway Safety Association. He represents the state highway safety offices before federal agencies and Congress. Russ is a national expert on behavioral traffic safety issues and directs GHSA’s engagement on emerging vehicle technology. Prior to joining GHSA in 2017, Russ spent 8 years at AAA’s National Office working in state government relations.

Anthony D’Agostino, Law Enforcement Liaison, NYS Sheriffs’ Association assigned to the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee

Anthony retired from Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office in Troy, NY in 2015 after 25 years in law enforcement and immediately began his new career with the NYS Sheriffs’ Association as a Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL).  As an LEL he is concerned with all things highway safety but works to make sure the voices of our rural highway safety partners are heard.

Sarah Abel, Technical Programs Manager with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)

Sarah is a Technical Programs Manager with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) working in transportation planning, complete streets, safety, speed management, Vision Zero, active transportation, health, curbside management, and MaaS/MOD areas. Prior to joining ITE, Sarah was the Planning Director for the Town of St. Michaels, Maryland and the Community Design Manager/Director at the ESLC Center for Towns on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She is a former President of the Association for Community Design and a certified professional in Social Economic Environmental Design (SEED).
