June 4: Why gifted education? What need is it supposed to address? Explore the data that supports the need for advanced learning opportunities in K-12 schools.
June 11: Contemporary gifted education. Consider the problems with traditional gifted education and connect with a system of Advanced Academics based on the RtI framework.
June 18: Implementation. Review different Advanced Academic service options, how they fit within an RtI framework, and what these might look like in your district.

Scott J. Peters is a Professor of Educational Foundations and the Richard and Veronica Telfer Endowed Faculty Fellow of Education at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University specializing in gifted and talented education and applied research methodology. His research focuses on educational assessment, identification of student exceptionalities (particularly those from low-income or underrepresented groups) and gifted and talented programming outcomes.
