Web Mythology: What People Believe About Websites and Why They're Wrong - Webinar (03/12/20)

When it comes to how people use the web and what constitutes best practice, there is a great deal of design based purely on past convention and anecdotes.

We'll take a tour of some beliefs that many people still have about usability (and are still seen on library websites!) and do some "mythbusting"--we'll learn why some of these things still persist, why they're a problem and what these sites could be doing better.

Learn,  based on current data and real examples, how you can start basing your own library's website on the standards the professionals use.

Virtual Trainer: Laura Solomon

Laura Solomon is the Library Services Manager for the Ohio Public Library Information Network. She has been doing web development and design for twenty years, in both public libraries and as an independent consultant. She specializes in developing with Drupal. She has written three books about social media and content marketing, specifically for libraries, and speaks nationally on both these and technology-related topics. As a former children’s librarian, she enjoys bringing the “fun of technology” to audiences and in giving libraries the tools they need to better serve the virtual customer.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
