The Rochester (NY) Ladies' Anti-Slavery Society papers (1848-1868) consist of the society's incoming correspondence about slavery, fugitive slaves, the conditions of freemen, and other progressive issues; printed annual reports; and other items. Abolitionists Frederick Douglass, Julia Wilbur, Julia Griffiths, and others are among the collection's writers. The William L. Clements Library selected this collection to be fully digitized and made accessible online in a new digitized manuscripts platform that launched in 2019:
https://quod.lib.umich.edu/r/rochester/
In this presentation, Curator of Manuscripts Cheney J. Schopieray will provide an overview of the collection and digitization process, as well as an opportunity to examine some of the materials in person.
