Webinar – 1.0 CPD Hour

Course Abstract
This course will introduce engineers to the Business Model Canvas and it will explain how to use this method of business planning to think through and analyze a new venture idea for engineering business.  The course introduces in detail each component of the Business Model Canvas, which is a commonly used tool in entrepreneurship.  It provides an illustration of how to use the tool to consider a particular venture idea and invites you to practice its use on an idea that you have chosen.

What Engineers Will Learn

  • Gain insights into practices associated with entrepreneurship.
  • Understand innovation tools that are used by entrepreneurs.
  • Gain specific knowledge of the Business Model Canvas.
  • Develop business model generation skills that will help your engineering business.

Presenter Biography
Dr. Luke Pittaway is the Copeland Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Ohio University (Athens, OH). He was formerly the William A. Freeman Distinguished Chair in Free Enterprise and the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Learning and Leadership at Georgia Southern University where he managed programs in entrepreneurship until May 2013. Dr. Pittaway’s research focuses on entrepreneurship education and learning and he has a range of other interests including: entrepreneurial behavior; networking; entrepreneurial failure; business growth; and, corporate venturing.

Participation Monitored
During this webinar, we'll be monitoring your attendance so that we are in compliance with the requirements of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.  While this webinar is available "on demand," your participation will be monitored through a device that will require your response at various intervals. You must respond appropriately, or you will not be eligible for a CPD Certificate of Completion.

Continuing Professional Development Hours
OSPE programs are designed to meet the requirements for Ohio’s continuing professional development (CPD) law and State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors (State Board of Registration) rules.  For Ohio licensees, the State Board of Registration determines the acceptance of individual courses for CPD credit. The State Board of Registration does not preapprove any courses or course providers.  OSPE programs are also designed to comply with the laws in KY, NC and WV.  Be sure to consult those states' licensing authorities.  The program also meets CPD requirements in many additional states.  There is 1.0 CPD hour associated with this program. Professionals should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.  Throughout the program, be sure to respond appropriately to our attendance monitoring device so that your attendance may be verified in case you are audited by the State.

Deductibility of Registration Fee
Registration fees for this program are not tax deductible as charitable contributions.  However, they may be tax deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses.  Please consult your tax advisor.
