Participants will learn how to utilize various perspectives and approaches of working with survivors of trauma, including neurobiological, holistic, humanist, cognitive behavioral, and community-based. Participants will leave the workshop with new tools for how to facilitate healing when working with people who have experienced trauma.

Who Should Attend:

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.    

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the neurobiology of trauma and the ways that trauma impacts brain development.
  • Through interactive learning methods, participants will learn new strategies for engaging and working with individuals who have experienced trauma. 
  • Participants will learn about holistic modalities used to treat trauma and stress.
  • Participants will also learn about how structured peer support can be a vital tool in supporting trauma survivors.

About the Presenter

Kenton Kirby, LMSW

Kenton Kirby is a graduate of the NYU Silver School of Social Work. Over the past 15 years, Kenton has worked in a number of roles, most recently as the Director of Trauma and Healing at the Center for Court Innovation. Kenton currently focuses his work on integrating trauma informed mental health services to communities of color throughout New York City. Kenton provides technical assistance to violence prevention programs across the country and is currently an adjunct lecturer at Brooklyn College. Kenton received the 2016 NASW Emerging Leader Award and the Community Impact Award in 2017 from the Urban Justice Center.
