The CHPR Seminar Series welcomes Jeffrey Hoch, Ph.D.!
Please join us as we welcome Jeffrey Hoch, Ph.D. Jeffrey will be presenting on "Negative findings in cost-effectiveness analysis of mental health interventions: How often, How wrong and how about an alternative?"
Professor Jeffrey Hoch, PhD is a health economist with 20 years of experience doing cost-effectiveness analysis and economic evaluation studies. He is an award winning teaching and has given over 200 invited presentations throughout the world. This research is joint work conducted with Dr. Logan Trenaman, PhD (a post doc scholar) and Sabrina Loureiro (an undergraduate research assistant) working at the Center for Healthcare Policy and Research.
About the Presentation
Cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) provides important information for mental health policy. However, CEA conducted alongside clinical trials faces challenges preventing the proper use of the standard cost-effectiveness statistic, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER).
This research reviewed papers published in the Journal of Mental Health Policy and Economics reporting the results of CEA to determine how often studies faced challenges preventing the proper reporting of results. Challenges preventing the proper use of the ICER will continue in mental health as sample sizes are generally small and most studies are underpowered for economic evaluation. Researchers should consider the use of alternate cost-effectiveness statistics (e.g., the incremental net benefit) and alternate methods (e.g., net benefit regression) to help produce estimates and characterize uncertainty
We hope to see you there!
