Identifying a Language Difference

Versus Disorder in EL Students

This workshop will provide guidance on how to assess and analyze the learning environment for English learners who may be struggling in school.

Participants will:

  • Identify red flags for language disorders in the EL population
  • Complete a guided reflection based on an EL student from your school/district
  • Receive a “toolkit” to support documenting concerns prior to referral
  • Increase collaboration between special education staff and EL staff during the evaluation process

Audience:  Recommended for teams of at least one ESL teacher and one Special Education teacher per school/district.

Presenter:  Courtney Seidel, MS, CCC-SLP - Associate Clinic Professor at the University of WI-Madison in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders

Note: While your district may received Title III funds, not all CESA #1 districts are Title III consortium members. If you are not certain if your district is a CESA #1 Title III Consortium Member, please reach out to Kristy Schroeder prior to registration. Those who attend that are not CESA #1 Title III members will be charged in full.

Registration required for ALL participants regardless of payment option.
