Dr. Eugene "Gene" Santucci received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Temple University and his MA in Educational Psychology and Counseling from the University of the Pacific. Upon graduation from dental school he completed a Hospital Dental Residency in Great Lakes, Illinois, and served as a Navy Dentist in Yokohama, Japan.

Dr. Santucci is an Associate Professor at Dugoni School of Dentistry, teaching part time for almost 30 years. As a professor in the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Science he teaches classes in esthetics and occlusion. He has authored several chapters in text books on occlusion and dental esthetics and has published numerous articles in referred dental journals. He has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of Sleep Disorders, Dental Esthetics, Dental Occlusion, Ergonomics, Temporomandibular Disorders and Dental Photography.

Dr. Santucci is Co-Director of the Dental Sleep Mini-Residency Program at UOP as well as Content Coordinator for Sleep Medicine Curriculum at the dental school. He was a faculty member in their prestigious complex and esthetic rehabilitation program and is Course Director for the second year integrated preclinical restorative course teaching a curriculum that includes esthetic dentistry, occlusion and implants. He was a member of and author on UOP’s Task Force Report regarding sleep medicine course content, in dental education.

The Perfect Dental Storm: Why are my teeth so short and worn down? Evaluating the interaction of disturbed sleep, bruxing, gerds, saliva and erosion
Why are my teeth so short? This presentation will give the dental staff valuable information regarding the various oral insults that result in badly worn teeth and the background to address these issues in children and adults.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the various forces that result in severely worn teeth.
  • Understand what is in sports drinks and how they affect the teeth.
  • Understand the differences between sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride.
  • Learn why a sleep questioner should be a part of your office intake exam.
  • Develop a method of explaining and answering your patient’s excellent questions regarding their worn teeth.
  • Understand why night guards may be inappropriate for every bruxing patient.
