Porgy and Bess Stage Play/Opera 

Known worldwide as a masterpiece and “An American Folk Opera,” Porgy and Bess was George Gershwin’s final work for the musical stage. Based on DuBose and Dorothy Heyward’s play Porgy, Porgy and Bess combines elements of jazz, classical, and American folk music. Musical numbers include “Summertime,” “A Woman Is a Sometime Thing,” “My Man’s Gone Now,” “I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’,” “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” “Bess, You Is My Woman Now,” and “I’m On My Way.”

We can carpool so you do not have to travel alone. Hotel check-in is 4:00p.m. The performance starts at 7:30p.m.  We will be located in the Birmingham Civil Rights District.  
If desired, we will carpool.  If you do not have a roommate, we will assign one to you. 
OPTIONALS:
On Staurday you will have an opportnity to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, Kelly Ingram Park, and much more.  We have an 11:00a.m. tour set up at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, it is an additional $5.00.  Entrance fee into the Biringham Civil Rights institute (it has 13 galleries), is an additional $15.00.
