Wise Employment Learning Network On-Demand Social Security Benefits and Work Incentives

This 5-hour course gives clear and thorough information about Social Security benefits and related work incentives, and helps people make informed choices about employment. The intent is to inspire participants to realize that work is important and achievable for people who experience disabilities. It will further help participants understand that people with disabilities can work and retain essential benefits, allowing them to move toward greater financial gain from employment.

The Course Learning Objectives are:
  • Understand the differences in how income affects the two social security cash disability benefits programs (Title II SSI and Title XVI SSDI/CDB).
  • Have a basic understanding of an impairment related work expense and a plan for achieving self-support.
  • Gain a general knowledge of the rules for Medicaid vs. Medicare, and the associated cash benefits program for this framework.
  • Have a working description of how access to Medicaid may be essential in accessing employment services. 
  • Gain the ability to list how, where, and why benefits planning is accessed.

Offered On-Demand in April 2020!

  • Complete the course on your own schedule from 9am, April 1st through 5pm, April 30th. 
  • Course content is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week online for the month of February.
  • $100.00 registration fee, $25.00 with purchase of all three Wise Employment Learning Network live courses.

Susan Harrell, Assistant Executive Director, Wise has worked with and on behalf of people with disabilities through direct service, service agency management and governmental and agency consulting since 1985, with a specific focus on employment as an essential component to assure community integration, financial stability and quality of life.  Susan specializes in the following consultation and training topics: Job Development; Job Coaching; Social Security and Medical Benefits; Work Incentives; Individual Resource Development; Person-Centered Planning; and Policies and Regulations Related to the Self-Sufficiency of Individuals with Disabilities.  Susan recently obtained a Certificate in Advanced Professional Development for Assistive Technology Application from California State University, Northridge. 

 

Scott Leonard, Wise Associate has worked in the field of disabilities for over twenty years, focusing on services that support people with disabilities to become successfully employed. Employed as a benefits planner for 10 years through the King County Developmental Disabilities Division, he currently provides education and consultation to individuals, families, and organizations around public benefits, emphasizing that people can work and build wealth while maintaining critical services. Scott offers training and consultation on State and Federal benefits, including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, Home and Community Based Services, and Work Incentives. Scott holds a degree in Psychology and is trained in Benefits Planning and Outreach (BPAO) through Cornell University.
