Objectives:
-Current status of addictive behaviors and treatment
-Description and clinical rationale of integrative harm reduction approach to treating substance misuse and other risky behaviors
-Specific practical skills and strategies such as risk reduction, safer use, syringe programs, overdose prevention sites, naloxone, medications for substance use disorders, and abstinence
-Supportive statewide and federal policies
Training Summary:
This training will explore Harm Reduction strategies and psycho therapy approaches which emphasizes meeting people where they are at and that any positive change is change. This consists of a move away from the disease model toward a bio-psycho-social process model for understanding addiction and a shift from an abstinence-only to an integrative harm reduction approach to public health and treatment.
Presenters:
Chelsea Laliberte - Helping individuals and families with mental health and substance use challenges and guiding communities in addressing these issues is Chelsea’s passion. Chelsea graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a B.A. in Integrated Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. Since graduating, she has developed digital and print marketing campaigns in real estate and healthcare industries with her core skill set in the digital advertising world. She is now a Master of Science in Social Administration and a Licensed Social Worker. Chelsea practices as a mental health counselor with Cherry Hill Counseling in Lake Zurich, IL.
Laura Fry is Live4Lali's Chief Programs Officer. With a background in Emergency Medicine, Laura was no stranger to overdose, but it wasn’t until substance use disorder entered her family, did she truly understand. With her son in remission from heroin use disorder, she now mentors families and individuals impacted by substance use disorders, and manages Live4Lali’s programs. She will continue implementing the innovative, comprehensive and compassionate approach she helped develop, to continue serving people with substance use disorders and their loved ones.
