LET'S TALK ABOUT THE A WORD

A Conversation about Anxiety to Assist Parents in Supporting Their Anxious Child(and maybe even themselves)

Presenter: Jon Mattleman

Join us for an evening with Jon Mattleman focused on mental health and our chidren.

Anxiety is the #1 most diagnosed mental health disorder in the USA, and 25% of all adolescents have a diagnosed anxiety disorder --- including over 7% of youth ages 3 – 17.  And how many more children are affected and undiagnosed?

This interactive and fun (yes, we can have fun while talking about anxiety!!) workshop will provide the language and direction adults/parents need to be of real support to their anxious children.

Former Director of the Town of Needham’s Youth and Family for 24 years, Jon has a strong pulse on what's happening in the Needham community and will be utilizing data, gleaned from both Needham Youth Risk Behavior Survey and Metrowest Mental Health survey, in his observations and recommend strategies.

This lecture is FREE to the entire Broadmeadow and Eliot communities! Click here to register:

About the Lecture

Severe and uncontrolled anxiety is similar to a disability, in that an elementary or secondary school students simply cannot achieve academically, socially, and even athletically to the level they would were it not for their anxiety.  And parents can feel frustrated and/or helpless that they cannot effectively impact their child’s anxiety.

Participants will leave the conversation with an understanding of:

• The differences between stress and anxiety
• The signs, symptoms, and different types of anxiety
• The impact of social media on anxiety
• Renewed energy and approaches to effectively impact their child’s anxiety
• Specific techniques & language to implement to support their anxious child

Jon Mattleman's goal is to set up a discussion that is both interactive and fun (yes, we can have fun while talking about anxiety!!) while at the same time provide the language and direction adults/parents need to be of real support to their anxious children.
